#12: you disappoint me
an open letter to the men that have disappointed me
I am gorgeous. This is not contingent on your perception of me. So I do not understand why you think your lack of interest in my looks should negate that fact.
I am a lovely person to chat with, a nice person to get to know, and an absolute charmer in conversation. So why on earth, sir, do you think that your torpor in having non-sexual interactions with me diminishes my value?
Why do you believe that you are so important that any disregard from you removes something from my being, as though I haven’t existed without you and will not continue to do so?
You try to base your reasoning on your self-worth, manipulating conversations so I can “see things from your point of view.” It’s amusing really.
I should apologize. At the start of our interaction, I presented a more compliant version of myself. But surely, you must have seen the detachment in my smile and observance in my gaze. My curiosity brought me to your doorstep, but there is nothing about you that compels me to step inside.
It is disappointing, but not uncommon.
You may hold value elsewhere. That is irrelevant to me. What matters is your assumption that you hold significance here.
Why do you think you are essential to my continued existence? Why do you think you are significant enough to have an impact on my mind, my thoughts, or the way I carry myself? You are suitable for a laugh and a casual conversation, nothing more.
And yet you mistook yourself for something permanent.
How disappointing that must feel. Still, now we are both disappointed in different ways: you in your imagined significance to me, and me in your entitlement to it.

Here I am, asking myself these questions instead. Why do I let his lack of interest in me negate these beautiful facts about myself?
Yoooo!💀
